TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language.
Yes. Employers are looking for fluent English speakers that have studied the foundations of Teaching English as a Foreign Language; taught by a qualified and recognised training organisation.
These are basically different terms for the same thing. TEFL is the term widely used in the UK and TESOL is more common in USA, Canada and Australia.

We get a broad mix of people on our courses, some are wishing to change career, others just wish to travel and work abroad and some have just graduated and need this qualification to work during a gap year.
For some employers, this course is more than sufficient, combined with being a fluent English speaker to get paid teaching work. Candidates receive their certificates after completion/graduation and can then go straight into employment.
You must be aged sixteen or over to enrol on a course.
You don’t need any qualifications to enrol on the Standard Course. As long as you can speak English fluently you don’t even need any teaching experience. We give you what you need.
You don’t need to have an in-depth knowledge of grammar as it will be covered during the course. Most people haven’t studied grammar since attending school so you won’t be alone. If you do want to refresh your knowledge, you can enrol on our Online Grammar Course or alternatively, you may want to purchase one of the grammar books available from our Shop.

No, all course material is provided by us, including an extensive resource pack.
It is possible to fail but it is quite rare, our courses have a pass rate of around 99 per cent. In our experience the only people who do fail are not really suited to becoming a teacher. If you are passionate about teaching and participate in all aspects of the course then you should have no problems.
Yes, that is why the minimum we offer is 120 hours. We are serious and passionate about what we do, and we will never offer courses that are unacceptable for any position.
No, once your course has been paid for there are no further costs involved.
Unlike other Distance Education Colleges, we impose no time limits or pressures on you to complete your course material. Your course will not expire, and it will not become invalid until you have successfully completed it. All that we ask, is that you inform us if you are intending to take a break from studying for a period of 6 months or more.
If you would like to study online through Manchester School of Languages we cannot accept payment for course fees in instalments, instead course fees must be paid in full at the point of enrolment. The reason for this, is due to the fact that when you enrol with Manchester School of Languages you have access to all of your course materials from the outset..

At the end of each lesson/unit you will find a quiz/test on the work that you have covered. Only when you feel ready, do you complete this.
Depending on the course, each lesson/unit should take you between 3 – 6 hours of study. Please note: This is only an approximate figure and is dependant upon how much time you can dedicate to your studies and how well you grasp the learning concepts in the course material. Furthermore, at the end of each lesson/unit there is a quiz/test that needs to be completed. You should allow at least 1 – 2 hours of study to complete each quiz/test.
